Synopsis
I was a hopeless romantic, enjoying my life as I finished out my senior year of high school. My life was that of a typical student, nothing exciting happening to me until the day I met him. Bryant was everything I wanted, but never knew was possible. The problem was, he didn't feel the same way. Or at least that’s how it appeared. But our chemistry was undeniable, unavoidable and soon consumed us both. We fell hard and fast, and we crashed even harder leaving a wake of destruction behind us after a tragedy rocked our relationship. Leaving behind Tampa and Bryant was the hardest thing I ever did, but I had to, for my survival. But one day, when my life hangs in the balance, Bryant is the only one who could save me, and all I could do was think about every moment I regretted not spending it with him. 62413-add-to-goodreads-button

Arrested teenager with handcuffs on his hands excerpt
I don’t even know where to begin, or what to say to you, so… I’m writing. When I met you, you took my breath away. I was instantly irresistibly attracted to you. Our connection was undeniable. Ultimately, though, I think it was all too much too fast. We loved each other too deeply, and that was our downfall. We never took the chance to work at our friendship and communication. We avoided the serious talks, too excited with the moment. Hell, that’s how Angelica was created in the first place, a lust-filled moment where neither of us were thinking about the consequences of our actions. If we could rewind time, I would do it differently. As much as I loved you, it was too fast. Thinking back, maybe you saying I was too young had been spot on. I know you want to talk about that day. I’m so angry with you for attempting to smother my dreams to go to college. I wanted to be a role model for to our daughter, too. You completed school. I knew I’d have to alter my course schedule and do some online or night courses to stay home with her. But you decided that wasn’t enough and got the job here without even talking to me. You made decisions for us by yourself.

Bryant~

After getting Rose to the barn, I stormed off, needing to get away and think it all through; obviously, I wasn't separating from her. I hiked up to the clearing in the woods and twirled the jewelry box that held a diamond ring in my hand, thinking how much better it would be with a few paychecks under my belt. She wouldn't leave once I proposed and she saw how good this job was, although, I knew Rose could hold a grudge like no other, but she wouldn't be able to ignore how good this was all for our family.
I looked to my phone and realized an hour had passed by, but she hadn't called me. No reception -- go figure. I walked toward the road again, and my phone beeped with a text from Rose, oh yeah she's still pissed, I decided to call a friend from paramedic school to come get me to grab a few beers and has it out. My phone rang relentlessly from Leslie, Grant, and Jordan. I assumed that they were calling to lecture me about smothering her dreams. When it rang again I pushed the power button to shut my phone off and silence the annoyance.
....Seriously? Leave it to him to swoop in and be the hero of the day, Mr. Amazing. I'm sure he was filling her ear with how this was exactly what he'd meant, and that he still loved her. With a smug grin, I answered the phone and told him off, hanging up before he could get a word out. I was intoxicated for sure. I decided it wasn't the best time to call rose to press my point about being a grown mature person in my current condition, so I headed to my apartment to sleep it off.
....I knocked on the door, figuring her mom would be safe and would understand, since she'd given me a very stern lecture about supporting my family and getting my priorities in check...
Mrs. Barnes's answered the door, shaking and crying.
"What? What's wrong?" I asked in a panic, knowing it was Rose.
She just kept blubbering and wouldn't answer me, so I reached out and grabbed her arms.
I gave her a shake and yelled, "What. Is. Wrong.!?"
Her eyes cleared out from a haze, and she finally answered me.....

PROLOGUE

Loud piercing sirens rang in my ears. I opened my eyes but couldn’t focus on anything. I could hear nothing but the sirens in the distance. Warm liquid rolled down my face.
I reached up to clear my vision. My fingers came into contact with whatever was oozing down my face, making me quickly wipe my eyes.
Bright red blood clung to my fingertips. My fingers were covered in my own blood. In a panic, I gasped for air, pulling on the seatbelt in an attempt to free myself. What happened? I took a deep breath before blinking my eyes several times in rapid succession, trying to reset time and bring back the faded memories. I closed my eyes to get my bearings.
Suddenly, it all came crashing back. Bright headlights, blinding me as they careened around the corner. Screeching tires followed by the sounds of metal crunching and twisting in carnage as the two cars melded together as one. My truck flipping endlessly until sliding on the rooftop into a tree finally halting its momentum.
The smell of burnt rubber, from the tires losing themselves to the asphalt, trying to avoid impact, assaulted my nose.
My body was numb to any feeling, as air became harder to pull into my lungs, making it difficult to gain control of my breathing. I could tell the sirens were getting closer, but not close enough, not fast enough. I prayed they would find me quickly, as I tried to remain focused on the sound. I dozed in and out of consciousness.
As I lay there trapped in the wreckage that was my truck, a woman’s fuzzy slippers came into view before she crouched down beside my window. Her eyes were filled with fear. She turned and yelled to someone farther away and then disappeared as she repeated the information. My eyes grew heavy again as I heard her screaming to the fire rescue who had just arrived. I could taste the copper tang of blood that marked my life and future slipping away.
My life flashed before my eyes, forcing me to see all of the choices I regretted. I should have listened to Bryant, instead of running. But now the time to fix them had passed me by. Lying here imprisoned inside my truck dying, I had so many regrets, so many things I wished I could go back and redo. Regrets that I would have fixed had I known tomorrow would never arrive. Now they were all simply my expired regrets.
Feeling the sensation of floating, I forced my eyes open and caught a glimpse of an angel. The chocolate brown eyes of an angel were looking back into my own, and I felt at peace. This was it. Heaven.

Title: Secret Regrets

Author: Megan C. Smith
Series: Living For Today
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Live for today… Tomorrow isn't a promise.
This is the motto of Bryant and Rose's relationship, especially considering the roller coaster they've been through over the past few years. The problem is neither of them took into consideration the past they tried to keep hidden. Until it's too late. Soon they both realize they are being suffocated by their secrets of the past they have kept from one another. When the past collides with the present, it becomes the ultimate test to their relationship, with more people hoping it fails than survives. They must rely on each other like never before as they fight to survive the secrets they now regret keeping from one another.
While tomorrow isn't a promise, with the past waging a war, Bryant and Rose may not be able to survive — even today.

Rose~

"I love you, Rose," Bryant softly whispered in my ear, sadness lingering in his tone as he placed a kiss on my neck.
I could tell by the tone of his voice he knew that he was being kept in the dark, and it was hurting him. Hurting him hurt me. It sucked.
I felt I owed him so much more, so I rolled over looked into his eyes, struggling to find the courage to tell him about my nightmare. While I didn't remember the one I had just had, the real version was a scar the would never heal, a memory that would never leave me. The nerves balled in my throat, choking me and preventing me from speaking aloud. His chocolate brown eyes met mine as I searched them for the strength I needed. He looked at me lovingly with adoration, unaware of my inner demons. I was his. From day one, Bryant had thought me to be an innocent. We had just been through so much over the course of our relationship I just wasn't confident we could survive any more obstacles in our path.
"I love you too, Bryant. Always and forever." I placed three sweet kisses on his lips. Our tradition. Three kisses every time. One for the past, one for today, and one for the future.
